Bluetooth Music Streaming With BMW’s iDrive
I decided to make this instructional video on how to enable music streaming via Bluetooth with BMW’s updated iDrive system. This should work on all iDrive equipped cars produced from September 2010 and on. Sound quality is excellent however not having track information displayed is somewhat irritating. Perhaps there will be a software update in the future that remedies that problem. Rate, comment, and subscribe!

@archienc45 Thank you. I don’t know why the menu wouldn’t come up. It shouldn’t matter if the car has a satellite signal or not. Anyways, it’s good to know that people are getting use from this video and even dealers are using it to set up customers cars.
@foleygac Yeah, I thought you would already know that. I am having trouble bringing up the menu on my car at 1:28 in your video. I’ve only tried it in the garage and may need to bring the car outside in order for the NAV system to load. Thanks for your video. I played it for the BMW dealer here in the Mpls. area and he saved it on his own computer. Nice job!
@archienc45 I meant you can’t download the music to the storage drive with Bluetooth. I already have added music to the HDD but I prefer to stream my music.
@foleygac What year is your M3? If it has the capability to stream via bluetooth, it should also be able to download playlists to your hard drive via CD. I’ve got several playlists already downloaded in a 335xDrive (2009) that I bought 2 weeks ago. The quality of the sound is “CD”-like. I’m sure with your technology savvy, you can figure it out. It is in the Owner’s Manual.
Best,
Jon (archienc45)
@archienc45 No, Bluetooth is only for streaming audio on this system. However, it would be pretty badass if it could download music to the hard drive.
Question: Are you saying that the music/songs from your Iphone can be downloaded to the hard drive? Or, is it just streaming?
I know we can burn a CD on our computers and then “load” that CD as a playlist to the hard drive…so I guess I’m not sure if that is what you are doing in this video.
Thanks and nice work!
I’m having the same problem with my Audi S4 2011 not streaming music via bluetooth even though its capable of making phone calls via bluetooth… I’m glad I came across your video. It gives me hope and going to checkout the settings in my Multi Media Interface. Hopefully, i’ll be as easy as it was with your M3 and it works like yours… I get back to you if it was successful.
balller
, e60 driver here !
@karthikaikumar Sure thing man.
@foleygac great, thanks for the reply!
@karthikaikumar Honestly, I’ve never tried the voice controls for phone calls or anything else. I’ll look into it one of these days but my schedule has been crazy with work and everything else this summer. And thank you for the compliments. I love the Fox Red Novillo leather.
@jnedo2005 It turns out that when you connect the phone to the USB port it disables Bluetooth music streaming so you have to constantly reset it. It’s all good because I just plug in my iPod instead. I was thinking of an Android, but I still love the iPhone lol.
Hey thanks so much, I just bought the VO 1M and was also looking into this but couldn’t figure it out. Also I have a question of voice command calling, When I hit the voice button on the steering wheel and I say ” Call John” for example why doesn’t it directly call the person instead it goes into contacts and ask to say a name. Is there a different command if I want to call a contact by name, please let me know. Also congrats on your M3 lovin the interior color!
Strong work!! I’m a tech freak and I could never figure this out on my 3, now got a 2011 550 and still didn’t know how, not even the dealer rep could figure it out and wanted me to schedule an appointment to do so. You’re awesome for sharing this! One other thing, upgrade to android phone for true tech freak experience. Lose the iphone, lol.
@e60MPower No, not directly. The 09/2009 production cars and up were given this ability. I think there is an aftermarket module out there that will allow you to stream Bluetooth. I have no personal experience with that though so I can’t give you too much information on that.
@poketehnoob No, it’s fine for you to say what you want to say. I’m just saying I do what I want and I don’t care what other people think.
can i do dis on an 05 idrive or it has to be 2011 idrive?
@foleygac Wasnt cool for me to say that i quess….Still love ur vids
@poketehnoob I don’t care what people think. I wasn’t looking around to see if no one was looking. My Aunt and my Mom were carrying things to my Mom’s car and I was seeing if they needed any help.
OMFG No offence white dude dancing to rap and looking to make shure noone sees him..MAD FUNNY
@Kaipeternicolas Yeah, the R8 is definitely not a daily driver car. That is for sure.
@foleygac Ya definitely a part of lifestyle here.
Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE BMW! And especially BMW M. I mean I am from Munich so I got the same blood
I think they are awesome daily drive cars. I mean the R8 is fun but it is really uncomfortable. I wouldn’t want to drive it every day like I used to drive my M5.
@Kaipeternicolas That’s got to be pretty dope to be in high school and show up in a 458. I know the car scene in SoCal in general is big and it’s part of the lifestyle.
People have nice cars here as well but I get complimented daily for the M3. It’s rare to see a E9X M3 on the road here and people of all ages seem to be drawn to mine. It’s an awesome car but in my eyes it’s not as special as some of the other stuff I’ve seen. I don’t gush over stock M3′s…modded is a different story
@foleygac Haha giant iPod. Right. Ya I would call it chinese scene. Why? Because all those sick cars here are driven by really rich Chinese dudes. I mean I got a “friend” who is in High school and drives a 458 Italia. That’s just sick. But I think I would prefer to be the lonely wolf
@Kaipeternicolas I know no negativity was meant
. I agree with you it’s awesome to keep finding new things with these cars. In some ways I prefer older cars because personally I can do without the electronics at some level. It’s like a giant iPod lol.
I’ve only seen one R8 V10 in CT and it was at a shop having a passport installed. Alot of my friends who have been out to SoCal tell me that I would fit in really well out there with the Euro scene. However, it’s nice to be the lone wolf in CT.
